Since the age of 14, I've been crafting horseshoe horse sculptures—a passion that ignited with my very first creation, a rearing horse that found a home at Cheltenham Racecourse. Over the years, I've continued to produce numerous pieces, each finding its place with art enthusiasts. But what's the enduring allure? When I embarked on my journey as a sculptor, I couldn't help but notice the abundance of horseshoes in the world. As I delved deeper into this, I discovered that horses require a new set of horseshoes every six weeks, leading to a rapidly growing surplus of these intriguing metal objects. Over the years, I observed countless people searching for innovative ways to repurpose these horseshoes (resulting in a plethora of wine holders and flower baskets). However, my initial, somewhat naive, thought was rather simple: "Wouldn't it be fascinating to craft a horse entirely from horseshoes?" At that time, I hadn't fully grasped the unique connection this idea held. Now, I realize that this very connection is one of the key reasons behind the resounding success of this concept.

These unassuming pieces of steel carry a rich history and a profound connection between humans and horses, making them an ideal medium for crafting metal horse sculptures. My Artistic Process

Creating horse sculptures from horseshoes is an intricate and meticulous art, demanding a combination of artistic vision, technical skill, and an intimate knowledge of both the material and the subject. In my early work I tried to not alter the original shape of the horseshoe and instead relied on the right shoe. Over the years I have developed a style where I forged and bent the shoes to my will to create a flowing pattern. 

Design: A good detailed design before making is crucial. It allows me to carefully arrange the horseshoes in the right place to capture the essence of a horse's form and spirit. This requires a delicate balance between the horseshoes' distinctive features and the fluidity of the horse's shape.

Meticulous Joining: Since I use recycled horseshoes I have to spend a lot of time prepping most shoes before, shaping, and welding. Welding demands precision to maintain the sculpture's structure and visual appeal.

Detailed Craftsmanship: I invest hours into crafting the right form and detail. To make sure the composition of the head, body and facial features are balanced and correct together. I use smaller and bigger shoes to my advantage to sculpt in greater detail and form.

The Finishing Touch: The final appearance of the sculpture can vary. I choose from options such as rust patinas, paint, or protective coatings to ensure durability and enhance the sculpture's overall look.
